What is the role of a health coach?

I have been unsure about how to write this post. I wanted to outline my services, but I didn’t want to come off as pushy. Conversely, I didn’t want to have my coaching, and not broadcast it. So, I felt like I was in a catch 22; this seems like a happy medium.

In this post, we will be talking about figuring out if you need a coach, what a coach should do, and I will be bringing it all together with what I offer as a coach and what my coaching packages come with. Now on to the post.

Why a health coach?

If I were to say everyone needs a coach, while simultaneously pushing my services down your gob hole would be disingenuous. Let’s take me for example, I have not used a coach in the literal sense. However, I have used people for their guidance. This is mainly because I don’t shy away from trial and error on myself. I also enjoy digging into the nitty-gritty science end of things. Even if it takes me a few passed to fully grasp the material. I get excited about the nerdy stuff. So in that respect, I may not have had a coach, however, I did learn from many people along the way via 1,000’s of podcasts, youtube, and books.

When I say 1,000’s I may be undercutting the number. For a year, I worked night shifts and during that time I worked 40 hours a week and I listened to any audio, or video course or lecture I could get my hands on. Heck, I even downloaded an app that would read PDF’s to me. Let me tell you there is nothing like listening to a robotic voice reading a biochemistry book to you and 2am.

Regardless I did a lot of research, even with that I still ended up reaching out to others. This is where the Primal Health Coaching service comes in. I did this partly to gain any knowledge I may have missed, I did it for the accountability factor, as well and the comfort of knowing that a group of people have my back when I am uncertain about where to find an answer about something.

What is a Health Coach good for?

A coach is there to help you have a support system to go to when you are feeling like falling off the wagon. A coach can be a mentor you go to, to troubleshoot health issues or issues with life. Having a coach as an outside observer can help you identify weaknesses. Much like when you talk to a tennis coach about fixing your backstroke. A coach can serve as an outside observer to figure out what is keeping you stalled. There is no shame going to a mechanic when you need an oil change, why is there any shame in asking someone to help you get to your health goals?

Does everyone need a health coach, maybe not, if that is you then more power to you! However, I would argue that asking for help may be needed regardless of where you are in your journey. If you do need assistance, please reach out. Most coaches, myself included love helping people figure out sticking points. If you email us with a problem, a good coach will get back to you free of charge. They can help point you in the right direction. If you don’t want to work with me, that’s okay. The goal is to find a coach that you feel inspired by. Find someone you feel like you can trust and work with them. Don’t let the stigma of, “I should be able to this alone” keep you from asking for help.

I have met many people who didn’t want to ask for help. I was one of those people and it really hindered my growth for a while. Once I was able to swallow my pride and ask for help things started to click into place for me.

Coaching comes in many different forms, the goal should be to find a coach and a plan that fits you. Be it a mentor to guide you along your journey, a list of do’s and don’t with monthly check in’s to get your bearings about you or a detailed and planned regimen that you follow to the “T”.

Figure out your why (see my last post for more on that), and figure out what you want in a coach. These will help you figure out what you need from a coach, this will help guide you in the direction of finding the perfect fit for you.

It is important to find someone who will bring out the best in you, someone that will push you. When you find them, then employ them to help you reclaim your health. You can do this! You can get healthy! You can become the best version of yourself, you will need to put some hard work in, but I promise you it will all be worth it in the end.

What I offer with my Health Coaching.

All of my coaching plans start with a consultation where I get to know you so that I can help you come up with a plan for your goals. This is the same regardless if it is a one-time consult, nutritional coaching or nutritional and training coaching. From there, things will change depending upon your overall goals. There are 3 main services I offer, each of these options have two tiers.

One-on-one Consults

During the one-on-one consult, you can ask any questions and I can help you assess your goals. After our talk, I will send you a recap e-mail with links to anything we spoke about.

In the e-mail, you will also receive a document that includes an initial macro breakdown,

along with a week-long meal template to help you figure out what type of meals work for you. I will also give you a few links to some of my favorite go-to sites that makes eating healthy simple, fun and quick.

If needed, I can also write you a basic workout template. This will not be a very in-depth template since we can only do so much with a one-time call, but, if you are struggling with getting started this will help guide you in the right direction.

Nutritional Coaching

My nutritional coaching is broken up into three plans: 4-week program, 8-week program, or a 12-week Program. In each program, we have bi-weekly phone consultations, with daily email or text chats to help heep you on track.

Much like with the one-on-one consult, you can ask me any questions you have, so that we can carve out a smart plan for you. You will also get a recap email with links to anything we spoke about. In this e-mail, you will also receive a sharable spreadsheet document with an initial macro breakdown, along with a week-long meal template, and a spot where you can include progress pictures and weight tracker. These progress pictures are simply a tool I use to help me refine your macros and workout to help you see progress. They will also serve as a motivation to you when you look back on them and see where you have come.

Each week I will evaluate your progress and adjust your plan accordingly so that we can better align with your long term goal. If needed I can also tinker and tweak your meal template to help provide different meals. I will also include links to a few of my favorite sites I use to get simple and flavorful meal ideas from.

Regardless of if you have the 4-week, 8-week plan or 12-week; I will send you daily texts or e-mails to help you stay positive and I will be there to answer any questions you may have.

Nutritional and Training Coaching

The nutritional and training coaching is broken up into three plans: 4-week program, 8-week program or an 12-week program . Similar to nutritional coaching, in each program, we have bi-weekly phone phone consultations, with daily email or text chats to help heep you on track.

This program includes everything I mentioned above. Durning any of our calls you can ask any question you have, I will also be getting to know you better, so that we can come up with a plan that works for you. You will also receive the post consult recap e-mail that includes links to anything we spoke about, as well as the shareable spreadsheet document that includes an initial macro breakdown, along with a week-long meal template, your weekly workouts, and a spot where you can include progress pictures, and weight tracker. These progress pictures are simply a tool I use to help me refine your macros and workout to help you see progress. They will also serve as a motivation to you when you look back on them and see where you have come.

At the end of each week, I will evaluate your progress and adjust the next week’s plan accordingly. This will help with better alignment with your long term goal. Before each week, if needed I can also tinker and tweak your meal template to help provide different meals. Your weekly training plan will differ depending upon your goals, however for most people, there will be a basic template that we will be building on. Regardless of what you have at your disposal, I can make a training plan that can help you improve.

No matter if you have the 4-week or 8-week plan; I will send you daily texts or e-mails to help you stay positive and I will be there to answer any questions you may have.
